Millions of individuals are injured in auto accidents every year, and some suffer from chronic pain for a very long time…even if it's a "minor" headache, joint problem, muscle imbalance or an annoying minor pain in the neck or back. If you have been involved in an auto collision, you may experience painful and disruptive injuries without even knowing it. In fact, a majority of people ignore minor injuries because they are not in serious pain.

Unfortunately, these minor injuries can manifest themselves into serious health complications. Chiropractic medicine is the perfect solution to dealing with pain that results from auto injuries. Our approach prevents the development of long-term symptoms that could be damaging to your health.

How Stanford Chiropractic Can Help

It's important to get proper care immediately after an accident. A licensed and qualified chiropractor can help you by determining:

  • Your specific injuries

  • The extent of your injuries

  • The optimal treatment plan for your condition

  • The number of estimated treatments and the time required to help you best heal from your injuries

  • If additional referral to another medical specialist is required

  • If special tests are required (i.e. MRI, CT scan, etc.)

The following are common injuries that Stanford Chiropractic frequently helps patients recover from after an accident:

  • Headaches and Migraines

  • Neck Injuries

  • Concussions and Head Injuries

  • Back and Neck Pain

  • Arm and Wrist Pain

  • Jaw Pain

  • Leg Pain

  • Shoulder Pain

  • Whiplash

  • Pelvic and Sacroiliac pain

  • Sciatica

  • Extremity Pain, Numbness and Weakness

Headaches

Research has shown that headaches are usually a sign of a more serious problem. They may be present immediately after an accident or take a few weeks to surface. Persistent headaches or severe migraines should be monitored properly in order to discover their root cause. We also check for further damage such as a concussion, spinal disc compression. swelling of the brain or internal bleeding.

Back and Neck Pain

An impact on your lower or mid back or neck may result in stiffness, tenderness, muscle spasms or tissue swelling. Back and neck pain often progresses slowly and at a certain point brings about a sudden level of discomfort that many sufferers find difficult to live with.

Neck and Head Injuries

Unfortunately, a majority of auto injuries are often related to head and neck injuries or neck pain. Symptoms such as hypersensitivity, blurred vision, stiffness of the neck and sleep disturbances are related to injuries that affect the head and neck. Do not ignore minor head injuries as they may severely progress over time. Memory loss, fatigue, and poor concentration can also surface with these injuries as well.

Arm and Wrist Pain

It is not uncommon to experience swelling and pain in the arm and wrist after an auto injury. Referred pain from the neck can also manifest itself in the arm. This kind of pain should not be ignored as it can be a sign of a serious underlying condition. A chiropractor is capable of evaluating the pain and creating the best plan of treatment for you.

Jaw Pain

A quick flexion and extension of the neck after a motor vehicle collision (aka whiplash) or other accident, will often result in pain to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) at either side of the jaw which can quickly develop into chronic pain, tenderness, limited jaw movement and temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD).

Leg Pain

Leg pain and injuries to this area can be debilitating. Impacts on these bones and joints or in the pelvis itself may cause numbness and weakness to the legs, or other portions of the lower extremities. In addition, damaged ligaments and subluxated or dislocated leg joints are also a high probability after a car accident, even at low speeds. Fortunately, real relief can be experienced through chiropractic treatments for these extremity injuries.

Shoulder Pain

Many people suffer from shoulder pain immediately or shortly after a motor vehicle injury. The severe trauma caused by a wreck should be addressed by a licensed chiropractor immediately. After examination, we will recommend effective solutions that will restore your shoulder’s proper chiropractic adjustment which will help relieve any tension that you may be suffering from.

Whiplash

Whiplash is the most common of auto injuries accidents. Although not immediately noticed, in due time, it forces the neck to bend backward or forward. Classic symptoms of severe whiplash include difficulty swallowing, lightheadedness, and blurred vision while moderately severe symptoms include acute pain and muscle tightness of the sub occipital muscles at the base of the skull and at the base of the neck in the area known as the cervicothoracic junction.

Pelvic and Sacroiliac Pain

One of the most debilitating injuries a person can experience after an automobile accident is that of the Pelvis which consists of the Sacrum and the left and right Ilia (Ilium is both Ilia). That is because the Sacrum acts similarly as the keystone of an architectural arch as a triangular shape that points downward causing it to lock into the Ilium with the aid of the supporting ligaments and muscles that hold these joints together. The joints that form between these structures are called the Sacroiliac joints and are the largest joints in the body and when subluxated dysfunction in these joints can become debilitating. Getting these joints to balance and function correctly after they have been injured requires a highly skilled Chiropractor. If you have pelvic pain after a car wreck, an Automobile Collision Chiropractic office is where you need to be.
